Covid-19: Maldives' active cases drop below 1,000 as over 900 recoveries are recorded
Maldives Covid-19 has reached 1,916 with 13 new cases confirmed on Monday
925 recoveries recorded
There are currently 981 active cases

With an additional 98 people recovering from Covid-19, Maldives’ active cases has dropped below 1,000.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) tweeted that 13 new cases were recorded between 6pm Sunday and 6pm Monday. The new cases include seven locals, five Bangladeshi nationals and one Indonesian.

Five of the seven locals are connected to already identified clusters while the remaining are yet to be linked to any previous cases. All six foreigners that tested positive on Monday are related to previously identified cases.

One of the locals, a 63-year-old woman, is at risk of complications due to other health conditions. A 12-year-old girl is also among the new cases announced on Monday, while the remaining 11 are between the ages of 25 and 48.

While the 13 new cases bring the country’s Covid-19 case count to 1,916, a total of 925 people have recovered from the virus and the recovery rate has reached 48.28 percent. There have been eight Covid-19 related deaths, four locals and four Bangladeshi nationals.

Hence, there are currently 981 active Covid-19 cases in the island nation. While Maldives recorded its 1,000th Covid-19 case on May 15, active cases have been over a thousand since.

There is a significant decrease in the number of people in quarantine facilities as well. While there were 1,297 individuals at quarantine facilities on Sunday, there are currently 428. This is due to a number of people being released from 'transit' quarantine facilities; these facilities were established to quarantine locals stranded in the capital due to lockdown, before being allowed to travel to islands. There are 1,049 people in isolation facilities.
