The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) has issued a white alert over regions where adverse weather is expected to prevail.

The alert was issued from Haa Alif atoll to Alif Dhaal atoll on Saturday morning.

The department revealed that heavy rain showers and thunderstorms with winds gusting up to 45 miles per hour are expected over these regions.

MET revealed that the advisory is effected from 11:30am to 4:30pm.

Generally, scattered rain showers and a thunderstorms are expected over northern and central atolls, with a few heavy showers at times.

Isolated showers and a few thunderstorms have been predicted in the south.

Seas are expected to be slight in the south and moderate becoming rough during showers in the north and central atolls.

Further, the department revealed that surface winds will vary from south to southwesterly at 10 – 18 miles per hour in the north and central atolls and southeast to southerly at 5 – 15 miles per hour in the south.

Winds may gust to 40 miles per hour during showers, predicted MET.
