Health insurance scheme “Aasandha” has revealed that they are working to send over 30 patients seeking treatment for ailments, that Maldives is incapable of providing treatment for.

Joining the press briefing at the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) on Sunday night, the company’s Managing Director, Mariyam Shafeeq revealed that they are working collaboratively with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the government of India and Sri Lanka to send 33 Maldivians who require necessary treatment for diseases for which the island nation lacks treatment.

She revealed that there are a number of patients in the Maldives who require treatment from abroad and that Aasandha will cover expenses for 33 individuals, as of now.

They will prioritize “critical” patients who are deteriorating due to their ailments, said Mariyam.

Further, she added that although the Greater Malé Region is locked down, they will continue providing uninterrupted services to the people.

Aasandha has also made arrangements to deliver medicines from pharmacies where the company’s services are provided, to households with individuals suffering from long-term illnesses. As such, these individuals will be provided the necessary medical supply once they forward their prescriptions via Viber. Prescriptions must be dated back less than three months.

Any pharmacy that has registered for the services will provide “e-prescription” services for prescriptions that carry the company’s logo.

In addition, the company has also made arrangements to supply medicine through the State Trading Organization (STO), to prescriptions penned by state-run Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) and Hulhumalé Hospital.
