Following the prediction of squally weather to prevail over various regions, the Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has issued a yellow alert over some regions.
The alert was issued on Friday evening and is among a number of similar issued that have been issued over a scatter of regions thus far on Friday.
The advisory states that torrential rain showers, thunderstorms and winds gusting at 45 miles per hour are expected throughout the regions between Haa Alif Atoll and Lhaviyani Atoll.
MET revealed that the new advisory is in effect from 4:30pm to 8pm.
The department has been issuing numerous alerts, both at white and yellow levels throughout the country, as the island nation continues to experience strong monsoon activities that are wreaking havoc across some regions including Addu and Fuvahmulah cities, where strong winds are tearing off roofs and uprooting trees and heavy showers are flooding the streets.
Generally, the department has predicted the country to experience fairly widespread rain showers with occasional heavy showers and thunderstorms at times.
Seas are predicted to be moderate becoming rough during showers throughout the country and urges caution against the adverse weather conditions as swell wave surges are also predicted in the south and central atolls during high tides.
