The outdoor sports facilities in southernmost Addu City have been reopened.

Addu City Council revealed that they opened the doors to these facilities after the authorities declared the city, ‘free of Covid-19’ and as an island that has not been placed under quarantine or monitoring due to the global pandemic.

This was done following the instructions of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, to be effective from Friday onward.

The council has also listed a number of things of keep in mind when using the football stadium, arenas and outdoor centers.

This includes:

  1. The facilities will be open from 6am to 6pm
  2. Maintaining hygiene when using these facilities
  3. Practicing social and physical distancing
  4. Avoiding going for activities if one exhibits flu-like symptoms
  5. Refraining from waiting at the facilities in groups, after activities are over.

The authorities announced a nationwide State of Public Health Emergency on March 12 and a lockdown was also declared across the Greater Malé Region following a community spread of the infection. Some islands were also placed under quarantine or monitoring after Covid-19 cases were discovered in the islands.

However, no Covid-19 cases have surfaced from the southernmost city thus far.
