Maldives Police Service (MPS) has launched a probe into the case of false information regarding a Covid-19 patient in isolation at Olhuveli Beach & Spa Maldives.
Police refuted the reports circulating on social media that a man who tested positive for the coronavirus and is currently under isolation at the facility in Olhuveli, was found dead inside the bath tub in his room.
The authority assured that legal action will be taken against those behind this act, having stated that it was done in a manner that churns public fear during such a critical situation.
Social media users have since been urged to refrain from sharing the post, and the individual who shared the post has also been urged to delete it.
Police revealed that they investigate such cases regarding Covid-19, as serious cases.
The public has been warned against repeating such acts.
The individual who shared the post via social media, wrote that a man, “suffering from corona” was found dead in his room in the resort.
The individual submerged in water inside the bath tub has since apologized for the photo, which he claims was shared among friends in a Viber group, “for fun” and that it was leaked by one of them.
Claiming that he is very much alive and in good health, the man apologized for stirring public outcry and raising concern among the authorities.
A death was reported from the resort earlier this year, a 53-year-old Sri Lankan man who was a staff member.
