The Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) is seeking charges at the Criminal Court against a group of individuals arrested in a drub bust

On March 26, officers of the police Drug Intelligence Department, Drug Enforcement Department and Marine Police conducted an operation under which 61.06 kilograms of heroin were confiscated from a fishing boat.

Earlier, the Commissioner of Police, Mohamed Hameed had revealed that they are worth MVR 72 million.

The Prosecutor General’s Office revealed via Twitter early Sunday that the drugs were being smuggled by a group of 11 individuals, led by a man known as Ahmed Visam.

The hefty amount of drugs were smuggled via a fishing boat, names “Iru Alimas”.

The Prosecutor General, Hussain Shameem had applauded the work of police investigators and prosecutors.

The prosecutors had managed to draft a 576-page charge sheet, which Shameem described is not an easy thing to do during a lockdown.

Seven individuals out of the 11 individuals being charged were arrested from the fishing boat and four were arrested from Malé City’s suburbs, Hulhumalé, revealed authorities.
