Covid-19 response efforts
President expresses gratitude for foreign aid, frontline workers in Covid-19 response efforts
President Solih addressed the nation on Wednesday night
He also thanked business owners in the country, both local and foreign
At least 199 frontline workers have been infected with the virus

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has once again extended appreciation for the various foreign assistance being provided to the Maldives in its Covid-19 response efforts.

During a televised national address on Wednesday night, the president highlighted the assistance provided by friendly nations as well as international organizations and thanked them on behalf of the Maldivian people.

The country has received support from India, China, United States, Canada, Bangladesh and Japan as well as international organizations such as World Health Organization (WHO), European Union (EU), International Monetary Fund (IMF) and UNICEF.

Solih also thanked business owners in the country, both local and foreign, for their contributions in the fight against Covid-19. He especially thanked the shareholders of Tree Top Hospital, which is being used a primary Covid-19 treatment center, as well as owners of resorts offered to the government as quarantine facilities.

SPECIAL THANKS TO FRONTLINE WORKERS

The president also expressed his deepest gratitude towards frontline workers, "for their tireless efforts to help contain the virus and keep households provisioned".

“I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to medical professionals, police and army officers, members of the Health Protection Agency, National Emergency Operations Center, National Cadet Corps, scout and girl guide [associations], Maldivian Red Crescent as well as community volunteers and organizations. I would also like to thank the families of these individuals, for their patience”

At least 199 frontline workers have been infected with the virus, as per statistics revealed on May 16.
