UNICEF has provided over MVR 800,000 for providing emergency food relief to families affected by the ongoing Covid-19.
The funding was approved in late April, “for providing 7,000 packages of emergency food relief to families negatively impacted by Covid-19 pandemic”.
While this is to be implemented by the gender ministry, it provided via local supermarket Redwave.
As per a letter addressed to Redwave’s Managing Director Ahmed Saleem, from UNICEF’s Maldives representative M. Munir A. Safieldin, a total of MVR 838,657 direct payment was to be made to the store who in turn is to provide equivalent amount of necessities to the ministry.
While the letter noted that UNICEF will make the payment following an invoice from Redwave as well as a confirmation of delivery of goods from the gender ministry, it is not clear on how far the process has gone.
