An elderly inmate at Hulhumalé prison has died.

Commissioner of Prisons, Ahmed Mohamed, revealed this via Twitter early Wednesday morning.

His tweet reads, “a bedridden 92-year-old inmate who was serving his sentence at Hulhumalé prison was passed away tonight”.

He added that the Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM) and the Maldives Police Service (MPS) have been informed of the inmate’s passing “as per protocol”.
