Maldives Police Service (MPS) has confiscated narcotics that were being smuggled into Dhangethi island of Alif Dhaal atoll.

This was done as part of the police operation against drug smuggling and trafficking in the Maldives and officers stationed at the island, in cooperation with the Police Intelligence Unit, conducted the operation on May 7.

The narcotics were being smuggled into Dhangethi island via a boat en route from capital Malé City.

In the operation conducted following a tip-off, officers took an unattended package inside the boat under their supervision and confiscated two packets filled with suspected narcotics inside the package.

No arrests have been made in relation to the drug smuggling case yet.

Police have launched further investigations into the case.
