The High Court has issued an order to monitor eight suspected extremists.
Home Minister Imran Abdulla revealed this during a virtual interview to RaajjeTV on Friday night.
Noting that they have learnt of extremist groups planning attacks that threatens the safety of the people, Imran said that they have managed to foil these attempts.
He added that the police have held various such operations within the past week as well.
In addition, the home minister stated that the high court has issued orders to monitor eight suspected extremists, following a request from the police under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
As such, he said that the high court had issued the ‘monicon’ orders on Thursday and added that these individuals are a threat to society.
Article 29 of the Anti-Terrorism Act grants the authority to request for a MoniCon Order to the Minister of Home Affairs. The law further empowers the Minister of Home Affairs to make any changes to the Order or cease the Order. These orders must be implemented by the police service.
