Opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has congratulated Vilingili Constitution MP Saud Hussain for his decision to join the opposition movement.

A statement released by MDP Monday night, had congratulated Saud and called on other Members of Parliament to follow the example set by Saud.

MDP added that following the no confidence motion on Parliament Speaker Abdullah Maseeh, the Government had launched targeted attacks on opposition. It further said the Government had realized they had lost their super majority status and resorted to using the Police to intimidate opposition leaders.

MDP further said the summons to Police was a deliberate attempt to halt the coalition mandate.

Noting that MP Saud’s stand was an example, MDP called on other Parliamentarians to follow suit and to overthrow the shackles imposed on them by the Government.

MDP had also called on independent institutions to stop acting as rubber stamps of the Government and to serve public as per their mandate.
