Second sample of an elderly woman from Manadhoo island in Noonu atoll, has tested negative for Covid-19.

Health Protections Agency (HPA)’s epidemiologist Dr. Ibrahim Afzal revealed this at the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC)’s press conference on Sunday night.

While an 80-year-old woman that was brought to Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) from Manadhoo island was tested for Covid-19 due to fever, she had tested positive on Friday.

However, Dr. Afzal on Sunday said that a second sample of her has tested negative but added that she remains admitted at IGMH as she was being treated for another condition.

IGMH’s internal medicine physician, Dr. Mohamed Ali added that the woman is admitted at the hospital’s ICU, with the required precautions, for some tests.

The woman is to have consulted at the Noonu Atoll Hospital in Manadhoo on April 29, and was transferred to IGMH the next day. She had not exhibited any Covid-19 like symptoms.

Despite a second sample taken testing negative, it was revealed that some healthcare workers at the Noonu Atoll Hospital are in isolation due to contact.
