Over 5,000 jumbo oxygen cylinders and 18 ventilators are to arrive in the Maldives next month.
Covid-19 taskforce’s spokesperson Mohamed Mabrook Aziz revealed this at the daily press conference on Saturday night, while detailing the work being done to ensure adequate treatment of patients.
As such, 5,035 jumbo cylinders are to arrive from Singapore on May 10 while the ventilators will reach the country within the first week of the month.
Mabrook said that the decision to bring the cylinders was made as there is enough oxygen supply in the country, adding that increasing the number of cylinders will enable them to prepare ahead of time.
It was previously revealed that the country's oxygen supply was increased recently.
The 18 ventilators are being brought under an agreement with Medtech Maldives.
There are currently four hospitals that offer treatment for Covid-19 patients in the Maldives; state-run Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), Dharumavantha Hospital, ADK Hospital and Tree Top Hospital; all of which are located in the capital.
Covid-19 attacks the respiratory system directly and health experts have revealed that oxygen supply is vital for Covid-19 patients.
