The Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services has revealed that they received the highest cases in connection to shelter, since the lockdown was declared across the Greater Malé Region following the emergence of a community transmission of Covid-19.
The ministry publicized statistics via Twitter on Thursday, according to which, the most number of cases received were connected to housing, recorded at 40.
This comes at a time the concern of individuals being forced out of their homes for failing to pay rent during these challenging times, has been growing.
Other cases the ministry received include 21 cases from individuals seeking help to get food, 25 cases seeking assistance in arranging transport and one case connected to medical aid.
The ministry also received eight other cases, of which the details have not been revealed yet.
This comes at a time almost 100 homeless individuals have been rescued by authorities and provided temporary shelter, food and essentials.
