The Anti-Corruption Commission of the Maldives (ACC) has publicized a guideline for the prevention of corruption throughout the government’s Covid-19 response efforts.
The “Guideline on Corruption Prevention in Covid-19 Responses” aims to minimize the hindrances facing the implementation of measures due to corruption and notes 7 points:
- Maintaining transparency and accountability,
- Reducing corrupt acts in running state finances and the procurement system,
- Enhancing awareness,
- Ensuring sincerity in making decisions and maintaining social peace,
- Ensuring honesty in running programs under the economic stimulus/relief package,
- Enhancing a system for documentation, and
- Narrowing the opportunity for corrupt acts in managing the administrative system.
ACC revealed that they have observed that ways are paved for acts of corruption in times of economic stress due to catastrophic situations.
As such, ACC has boosted the protocols to follow in such situations.
