The Fenaka Corporation Limited’s sewage pump station in Addu City’s Hithadhoo district has been damaged in a fire.

Police media official said that the incident was reported at around 4:53pm on Tuesday, adding that no injuries were reported.

While the fire was extinguished shortly after, police is investigating the incident. However, police did not reveal whether the fire was accidental, or an arson attack.

Managing Director of the state-owned utilities compnay, Ahmed Saeed told RaajjeMV that the station has been “greatly” damaged in the fire, adding that there is a chance that the services could be disrupted.

While this is the main sewerage pump station for the city, Saeed said that the company aims to solve the issue without any inconveniences to the residents.

There have been similar reports across the country recently, and the Police Commissioner Mohamed Hameed on Wednesday revealed that most of these are started on purpose. He noted that some of these attacks are in relation to the police’s efforts to combat drug trafficking and smuggling in the country, as well as by those with extremist ideologies.
