Three people have been arrested for breaching lockdown, on Monday.
Police said that the three were taken into custody for violating the order of the director general of public health.
As such, a 60-year-old man was arrested for travelling from Gemanafushi island to Kondey island in Gaafu Alifu atoll, while a 39-year-old man was taken into custody after going to Muraidhoo island from Baarah in Haa Alifu atoll.
The third individual is a 27-year-old man, who violated the director general’s order to self-isolate.
All cases are under investigation.
In addition to the three, 68 people were fined.
While the capital Malé City has been on lockdown since April 15, an order banning travel between all islands was issued on April 17. Further, those that travelled to the outlying islands from the capital, from April 15, have been ordered to self-isolate and inform relevant authorities.
This order came after the confirmation of a Covid-19 community transmission in the city. One individual, a resident of Uligan island of Haa Alifu atoll who travelled back home from Malé on April 15, have also tested positive for Covid-19.
Noting that they have been lenient in the past, police said that strict measures will be taken against those that violate orders in place to control the spread of Covid-19 in the country.
