All individuals that departed from the greater Malé region since April 15 have been told to self-isolate.

The order was issued by the Director General of Public Health, Maimoona Aboobakuru, under the powers granted to her by the state of public health emergency declared in the country.

While those that travelled to the outlying islands from Malé, Hulhumalé, Villimalé, Gulhifalhu and Thilafushi have been told to self-isolate, this includes those that were part of a crew that delivered cargo to any of these places as well.

These individuals are to inform the respective councils as well.

Furthermore, those that continue to deliver packages to the greater Malé region are urged to take all necessary preventive measures against Covid-19.

The capital has been on lockdown since Wednesday, following the confirmation of a community transmission. 15 people have tested positive from the city since, including seven on Saturday alone; this is the most number cases recorded in a single day thus far.

Maldives has reported a total of 35 cases since March 7.
