Over 1,200 people have registered complaints at the job center.

Mohamed Mabrook Aziz, the government’s Covid-19 spokesperson, revealed that a total of 1,218 complaints have been filed at the center thus far.

This includes 276 terminations, 386 no-pay leaves, 286 wage cut complaints and 83 suspension cases as well as 55 allowance cut complaints. In addition, Mabrook noted that 130 complaints were filed from employees at private companies.

He added that three cases of employers taking action against an employee, was filed by the employers.

Authorities have appealed to employers to refrain from making any dismissals or taking any such action against employees due to the Covid-19 pandemic, while those who face any such action have been asked to lodge complaints at the job center.

Any businesses that dismissed employees and forced them into no-pay leaves will no be eligible for the government's economic relief package.

Earlier, the Tourism Employees' Association of Maldives (TEAM) revealed that over 11,000 employees at 79 resorts have faced some kind of action following the coronavirus crisis.
