As part of the efforts to combat the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) global pandemic, local telecommunications service provider Dhiraagu has initiated free access to government networks, for civil servants.

This was announced by the telecom provider on Monday and the initiative is a joint collaboration with the Ministry of Communication, Science & Technology.

Under the initiative, free access will be enabled to all government networks through Dhiraagu Fixed Broadband in order to enable civil servants to work from home during the fast-spreading pandemic.

This has been done for the months of April and May, revealed Dhiraagu.

With government offices being closed down following the outbreak, civil servants have been working from home and attending to important matters related to their civic duties.

As such, during this critical time, Dhiraagu revealed that it wants to ensure that all civil servants are enabled with secure internet connectivity through Dhiraagu’s Home Fixed Broadband connection to facilitate a “seamless” digital experience.

The statement by the telecom provider goes on to read that they recognize that the “new lifestyle” requires quick adaptation and presents challenges which in turn results in citizens depending on digital connectivity now, “more than ever”.

Further, Dhiraagu revealed that they have noticed an increase in data usage within the past couple of weeks, following which the telecom provider will be announcing many such offers, which started during March, during which the outbreak surfaced in the Maldives.

These offers enable citizens to work, learn and socialize as well as stay entertained at the comfort of home.

This comes at a time the government has sought support from service providers for an initiative by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to ensure telecommunication and internet connectivity will be enhanced for the people during this critical time. The president has requested for service providers to pledge their support for the initiative.

As such, Dhiraagu launched several initiatives as part of this, having offered extra free data allowance to customers for the months of April and May. With this offer, Dhiraagu Home Fixed Broadband customers will receive 50% to 140% free extra data and prices of data boosters have also reduced by 50% for March and April.

As for mobile customers, 50% to 75% of extra free data has been awarded for Dhiraagu Postpaid customers, based on their plans for April and May, said Dhiraagu. They also added that Dhiraagu Prepaid Customers will receive 50% extra free data on every monthly data add-on which is purchased during April and May.

The telecom provider has been working closely with the government and relevant stakeholders in their efforts to curb the spread of the disease, through several offers.
