Local telecommunications provider Ooredoo Maldives has introduced an initiative that enables government employees to work from home.

This was done in partnership with the Ministry of Communication, Science and Technology with the objective to enable government employees to access government portals for free which in turn enables civil servants to work from home, at a time several government offices have been shut down due to the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak in the country.

As such, civil servants using Ooredoo’s SuperNet Fixed Broadband connections will have access to employee portals and online platforms to hold meetings and discussions on a daily basis.

Najib Khan, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Director of the telecom giant has stated that Ooredoo Maldives continuously works with the government and other relevant authorities in order to enable the digital lives of the Maldivian community to provide them easy access to quality internet services.

As such, he added that government offices play an important role to provide urgent services during such a critical time of the Covid-19 pandemic, and as such, the safety of civil servants must be ensured.

Minister of Communication, Science & Technology Hon. Mohamed Maleeh Jamaal stated that the authority is grateful for the initiatives being taken by internet service providers at this critical time as internet is a crucial part of daily life.

This comes at a time the government has sought support from service providers for an initiative by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to ensure telecommunication and internet connectivity will be enhanced for the people during this critical time. The president has requested for service providers to pledge their support for the initiative.
