Covid-19: police "Health and Safety Task Force" established

The Commissioner of Police, Mohamed Hameed has formed a “Health and Safety Task Force” in the Maldives Police Service (MPS)’s efforts to curb the spread of the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) in the Maldives.
This was a measure taken by the authority in order to ensure the safety of all Maldivian citizens, revealed Superintendent of Police Mohamed Sameer during a press conference held by the Covid-19 task force on Wednesday night.
The Health and Safety Task Force will comprise of directorates of the police institute and will mainly focus on expanding the precautionary and restrictive measures being taken by the government in light of the state of public health emergency declared by the Director General of Public Health, Maimoona Aboobakur on 12 March.
Under the Director General’s orders, the police will be implementing changes to be brought to the institute’s work as well as discussing further amendments that may be brought.
In addition, the Police Commissioner has also penned a policy to be followed by officers in carrying out investigations during the state of public health emergency, on Wednesday. The policy has since been shared with the officers.
Further, policies have also been implemented on how officers may implement orders given by the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) as well as how the police custody must act during the pandemic and the state of public health emergency announced.
