Delay in transportation due to the lock down declared in India

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that efforts are underway to transport the medicine shipment stuck in India due to measures taken by the neighbouring country against the spread of Covid-19.

While a shipment of medicines sent from five Indian cities is ready for transport, the foreign ministry has revealed that there is a delay due to the lockdown declared in the country.

The medicine shipment was ordered by State Trading Organisation (STO). The foreign ministry states that Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid had a telephone conversation with Minister of External Affairs of India Dr S Jaishankar, where the pair discussed the provision of medicines and other items to the Maldives.

A three-month supply of medicines used for the treatment of Covid-19 was donated by India on March 14th. A shipment of staple foods from India arrived in Male' City on Saturday with more shipments set to arrive in the near future.
