Covid-19: 117 Maldivians residing in Philippines registered by Saturday

A total of 117 Maldivians residing in Philippines registered at the Embassy of Maldives in Dhaka, Bangladesh following the government’s announcement.

This was revealed by the Spokesperson of the Covid-19 task force, Mabrook Aziz during a press conference on Saturday.

The Maldivian community in Philippines was urged to register at the earliest after reaching out to the embassy via their hotline or online, early Saturday.

Although Mabrook did not reveal details of those who have registered, the government is monitoring them closely, said the spokesperson.

Also at the press conference, it was revealed that the Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has decided to donate a ton of water to every household.

Mabrook extended gratitude to the company on behalf of the government.

MWSC implemented precautions to ensure the protection of compromised staff as well, such as transferring their pregnant employees and staff with respiratory, long-term medical conditions have been to “appropriate working environments”.

MWSC also established online services for their customers to make payments, applications as a measure to avoid crowds as much as possible.

In addition, the Covid-19 spokesperson revealed that the government is ever grateful for the governments of India and the United Stated of America for the generous assistance provided.

The Government of India donated a three-month supply of critical medicines to assist the Maldives' in efforts against the Covid-19 pandemic on Saturday. Further, an Indian medical relief team arrived on Friday.

Moreover, the U.S donated 400 coveralls, booties, and gloves to assist in Maldives’ efforts to combat the outbreak earlier.
