Passengers and crew with travel history to certain regions in Spain, France and Germany within the past 14 days will not be allowed entry to Maldives from March 15, as a precautionary measure against Covid-19.
Tourism Minister Ali Waheed made the announcement while speaking at the daily Covid-19 press briefing's held by the National Emergency Operations Center's (NEOC) on Saturday afternoon.
Passengers with a travel history to Spain, and/or specific areas of France and Germany within the past 14 days are barred from entering or transiting through Maldives, effective from Sunday.
- Spain: All provinces and regions.
- Germany: Bavaria, North Rhine-Westphalia and Baden-Württemberg.
- France: Île-de-France and Grand Est.
Aside from the aforementioned three European countries, Maldives previously issued temporary travel restrictions on China, Italy, Iran, some regions in South Korea and Bangladesh.
Shortly after the tourism minister's announcement, Maldives Immigration updated its travel advisory regarding Covid-19.
The Maldives has confirmed a total of ten positive cases of Covid-19 up to date; they are all foreigners and from resorts.
The Maldives declared a State of Health Emergency on Thursday. Following the declaration, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) has initiated stringent measures to curb the spread.
