Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has asserted that the people have accepted the sincere work put in by the previous administration of former president Abdulla Yameen.

Jameel, who served as the first-ever Vice President during Yameen’s tenure and is currently in his legal team, highlighted that it is very clear that the people have accepted the former president’s sincere efforts, from the number of people gathered at the opposition gathering held to launch Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM)’s campaign.

Following the Presidential Elections of 2018, Yameen had to face a loss of support, with lesser turnouts during opposition rallies and gatherings.

However, a record number of people gathered at the opposition’s campaign launching event on Friday night, from across the nation. This, Jameel said, shows that the people are standing up against the increasing acts of corruption, hindrance to independence and exploitation of the religion as well as Speaker and former president Mohamed Nasheed’s policies.

Jameel criticized Yameen after he was relieved from his responsibilities as Vice President back then, having spoken out against Yameen on multiple occasion afterwards.

Although he was a supporter of the current ruling coalition, he turned his back on the coalition once main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) announced that it would contest all seats in the Parliamentary Elections of 2019.
