Main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has stated that forms from 710 candidates seeking to contest the upcoming Women's Development Committee (WDC) Elections on MDP's ticket have been submitted to the Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM).
Speaking at a press conference held on Tuesday, MDP’s campaign spokesperson Afshan Latheef revealed that a total of 710 candidates representing MDP submitted application forms by 24th February- the deadline set by the ECM.
The high number of candidates representing MDP signals growth for the party, said Afshan.
While reminding that re-registration is required if the voter's location has changed since the last election, Afshan stated that assistance with re-registration will be available from MDP's head office upon request.
Further, she announced that an opportunity to apply as an acting representative for candidates will open on the 27th of February.
