Maldivian Democratic Party's (MDP) Secretary-General Afshan Latheef has been assigned as MDP's campaign spokesperson for the upcoming local council elections slated for April 4th.
Afshan has previously served as the spokesperson for the party's parliamentary election campaign as well.
In the past, the main ruling MDP has predicted that the party will succeed over 60% of council seats.
The 2020 local council elections, slated for April 4th, will be the first election to be held following the new revisions to the Decentralisation Act.
According to estimates of the Elections Commission (EC), over 6000 candidates will contest the elections whereas 7000 officials will monitor the election and 545 polling stations will be placed across the country.
