Maldives Police Service (MPS) has arrested a man during a drug operation in Funadhoo island of Shaviyani atoll.
Arrested in the case is a 30-year-old Maldivian man who has since been remanded by 15 days.
The operation was conducted as part of authorities’ ongoing efforts to curb drug smuggling and trafficking in the country, following a tip-off to police intelligence.
The operation was carried out on Monday and officers confiscated a rubber packet filled with suspected narcotics and substances wrapped in paper during the court-ordered raid on his residence.
Feydhoo Magistrate Court ordered for the man to be kept in a remand facility decided by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Funadhoo Police Station is carrying out further investigations into the case.
