The government is to submit 56 bills during the year’s first session of the People’s Majlis.
The Attorney General’s Office (AG Office) said that a list of the bills has been submitted to Majlis, as per Articles 82 (d) of the parliament act.
These bills include a total of 24 new laws, while the rest are amendments to existing ones.
While the AG Office has sent 10 out of the 56 bills to the President’s Office, five of them have been forwarded to the People’s Majlis.
They are;
- Mental Health Act
- Maldives Police Services Act
- Insurance Bill
- Statistics Bill
- Amendment to the Environment Protection Act
- Amendment to the Export Import Act
- Amendment to the Criminal Procedure Act
- Amendment to the Decentralization Act
- Amendment to the Employment Act
- Amendment to the Immigration Act
The five bills forwarded to Majlis are; Mental Health Act, Maldives Police Services Act, Amendment to the Criminal Procedure Act, Amendment to the Decentralization Act, Amendment to the Immigration Act and Amendment to the Employment Act.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih plans to submit over 200 amendments to parliament during his presidency, which are to fanned out through the five-year term.
