Maldives Police Service (MPS) has arrested an individual in possession of a large stash of alcohol.

The man was arrested a little past 2pm on Tuesday with 12 bottles of alcohol, and police revealed that he was attempting to smuggle alcohol into capital city Malé from its suburbs, Hulhumalé.

During the operation conducted by officers stationed in Hulhumalé, police arrested a 20-year-old.

The case is under further investigations.

This comes at a time authorities have been conducting operations across the country in their efforts to curb drug trafficking and smuggling in Maldives.
