Maldives Police Service (MPS) has arrested a man for assaulting his wife in a northern island.

Officers of the north police division received the report of a woman being treated at the island’s health center for injuries attained after being assaulted by her husband at around 10:34pm on Friday.

Following the emergence of the case, island residents had even gathered at the health center, where the woman was being treated.

Police reported that the woman is in stable condition and has since been released from the health center after treatment.

The 34-year-old man was taken into police custody some time on Friday night, revealed police.

Further investigations have since launched into the case.

The police refrained from revealing which island the case unfolded from.

The northern division consists of Noonu, Raa, Baa and Lhaviyani atolls.
