Tremor
Tremor recorded in Maldives' northernmost islands
MET Office said that the seismometer at Hanimaadhoo island had recorded “a small-localized tremor”
As per the U.S. Geological Survey, the 4.5 magnitude tremor occurred 47.2 miles out od Dhihdhoo island of Haa Alifu atoll
While the tremor left the residents of the islands in fear, no injuries or damages were reported

A tremor was reported in the northernmost islands, early Thursday morning.

Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) said that reports of ground shakes in the northernmost atolls was reported and that the seismometer at Hanimaadhoo island had recorded “a small-localized tremor” at around 1:47am.

As per the U.S. Geological Survey, the 4.5 magnitude tremor occurred 47.2 miles out of Dhihdhoo island of Haa Alifu atoll.

While the office is analyzing this, it said that “no danger is expected to Maldives.”

A council member of Hoarafushi island where the tremor was felt, Ahmed Imdhaah said that the ground began shaking at around 1:45am.

Noting that he also woke up during the tremor, Imdhaah said that a number of the residents gathered on the streets after.

While the tremor left the residents of the islands in fear, no injuries or damages were reported.
