Tourism Ministry sets up help desk at VIA

The Ministry of Tourism has established a help desk at the Velana International Airport (VIA).
Assuring the public that required preventative measures against the wide-spreading novel coronavirus coming out of southeastern nation China, are being taken, the ministry revealed that the help desk was opened for services at 7pm on Thursday.
Services will be available through the help desk until the situation simmers down, said the ministry.
Should travelers and operators require assistance in any matter, they are instructed to contact the help desk through 9423131 and their Situation Monitoring Unit’s hotline 7223131.
Further, the ministry has confirmed that relevant measures are being implemented with the joint efforts from relevant stakeholders and recommendations from the World Health Organization (WHO) following the coronavirus outbreak.
The ministry’s Situation Monitoring Unit is also conducting probes in everything that needs to be done to ensure safety and security of the people.
As part of the government’s preventative efforts against the novel coronavirus, authorities on Thursday ordered for all direct flights from China to be halted.
However, public concern ensued after it was revealed that flights continue arriving from China, on Friday as well. Chinese Ambassador to Maldives, Zhang Lizhong has since assured the people that there are no arrivals through the scheduled flights and that they are only for tourists departing from Maldives.
