Coronavirus: Maldives yet to discover a suspected case
 
While a number of tourists travel to Maldives from China, this has left the public tense with some calling to halt flights from the southeastern nation

Maldives is yet to detect any suspected coronavirus cases.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) via Twitter, on Thursday morning, said that “till date, there is no suspected case in the Maldives.”

While the Novel Coronavirus was first detected in Wuhan City, Hubei Province of China in December 2019, there has been public concern over the possible outbreak in the Maldives due to tourist arrivals from the southeastern nation. Over 260,000 tourists arrived from China in 2019.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has formed a special task force to address the issue, and established a 12-bed isolation facility in Hulhumalé Hospital in case of a potential case.

In addition, a four-bed isolated Intensive Care Unit has been established at Dharumavantha Hospital while additional facilities have been established in Funadhoo Island.

Thermal screening scanners have been placed at Velana International Airport and Addu International Airport, and authorities are working to obtain the required equipment for other point of entries.

Over 7,000 people in China are now confirmed to have the infection, and the death toll has reached 170.
