A man has been arrested during a police operation at Velidhoo island on Noonu atoll.
The man was arrested during one of the special operations by Velidhoo police department to reduce crime on the island. During a search of abandoned houses, lots, and parts of the forest where groups tend to gather, a 33-year-old man was taken under police custody after being found with a rubber packet containing substances suspected to be drugs.
Moreover, the police department conducted a traffic operation to check vehicles for valid annual fees, motor insurance, road-worthiness, parking violations and traffic violations. Additionally, efforts to compile a land vehicle registry were also undertaken.
As such, a land vehicle registry is also being compiled in neighbouring Manadhoo by the island's Police Station.
