Maziya Sports and Recreation Club has won the Dhiraagu Dhivehi Premier League after thrashing Club Green Street in an exciting game on Sunday night.
Maziya won the finals with an easy score of 5 – 1.
The finals were held at the Galolhu Football Stadium on Sunday night and both teams put up an equal fight into the beginning.
Maziya players directed several attacks to Green’s goal throughout, having taken the lead at the 27th minute of the game with a score by Mahdhy Hussain.
Although the winning team got several opportunities to score, they were to no avail during the first half, after the first score. The first half ended 1 – 0 with Maziya in the lead.
Less than a minute into the beginning of the second half, Mahdhy scored his second goal for Maziya.
Green players broke its nil score three minutes later, but luck was not on the team’s side for the rest of the game.
At the 73rd minute, Maziya’s Ibrahim Aisam scored the third goal, followed by two more goals from Hamza Mohamed at the 79th minute and the 82nd minute.
Hamza was dubbed Man of the Match.
After the resounding victory for Maziya, coach Marjan Sekulovski commended fair play and asserted that the team deserved the win, which was reiterated by Green’s coach Ali Suzain as well.
The champion had a major lead when the league began, having secured the top spot in the table with 29 points out of the first 12 matches, it remained at the top spot with 47 points when the league came to an end. Club Eagles remains at the second spot with 33 points. Third on the table, TC Sports had a total of 31 points and Green Streets is at its tail with 26 points.
