RaajjeMV has learnt that the Chief Magistrate of Kanduhulhudhoo island in Gaaf Alif atoll was also suspended following a similar case of sexual assault against a child.
This comes at a time three men from the island have been arrested following accusations of raping a two-year-old.
Following the surfacing of the issue, several such issues have been coming into the spotlight.
Sources reported to RaajjeMV that there have been many similar such cases in the island in the past and that Chief Magistrate Hassan Didi’s suspension was also linked to such a case.
When contacted for further details regarding the case, the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) revealed that they are looking into a disciplinary issue involving Magistrate Didi.
As such, Didi was suspended during July 2019 until the commission concludes the investigation.
JSC further revealed that a “sexual assault” case is also being investigated against him.
While the two-year-old’s rape case raised chaos with a large crowd of protesters taking to the streets on Friday evening, Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem has also raised concern regarding the case, stating that things would not go to such extents if adequate action is taken after credible investigations are carried out.
