MP for West Henveyru constituency and chairperson for Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Hassan Latheef, has stated that fulfilling promises is a trait unique to MDP.
Latheef made the statement while speaking at an event held in Dhihdhoo, which was part of MDP's Thiladhunmathi atoll tour to campaign for the upcoming local council elections. Elaborating on his comment, Latheef stated that MDP makes promises only after undertaking thorough research. He further added that the residents of Dhidhoo and the citizens of Maldives will be well aware of this fact.
Moreover, Latheef claimed that the party has gone door-to-door to understand the concerns of the citizens' and that MDP's pledges are announced following extensive inquiries regarding these concerns. He further claimed that after adding these pledges to their manifesto, MDP has consistently told the public that their concerns will be addressed as stated in the manifesto if the party's candidates are elected.
Likewise, he noted that this consistency has led the public to choose MDP's candidate in the presidential election as well as in the parliamentary elections. Latheef went onto add that choosing MDP's candidates in the local council elections will further consolidate the government's authority.
As such, he appealed for support and participation from all MDP members to ensure the party's success in the local council elections.
Responding to claims by the opposition regarding the local council elections, Latheef declared that the opposition has no right to talk about decentralisation laws as they failed to bring about decentralisation during their tenure and instead spent their time on other matters.
Furthermore, Latheef announced that candidates from MDP will contest for seats in every constituency and that there will be no obstacle to the country's progress if MDP succeeds in the upcoming elections.
