They further instruct parents to bring the child's I.D. card and vaccination booklet but assures the vaccine will still be administered to the child without the booklet as well.

While highlighting that the vaccination service is completely free and without any charges, Dhamanaveshi urged the public to contact the ministry of health's hotline (7377004) for further information or clarification regarding the vaccine.

The government determined to begin a vaccination drive following the re-emergence of measles in the country on January 8th; The World Health Organization (WHO) publicly declared the elimination of measles from the Maldives during June 2017.

So far, two confirmed cases of measles have been discovered. The communicable disease was found in a three-year-old boy and a 30-year-old Maldivian man.

The measles-stricken toddler was revealed to not have received the required dosages of the MMR vaccine. As such, individuals who have been in contact or in the vicinity of the child from 1 to 9 January and those who were in the Hulhumalé central park area and cafés in the region have been advised to look out for symptoms, if they have not taken the required two dosages of vaccination for Measles and Rubella.

Symptoms of measles include fever, dry cough, runny nose, sore throat and inflamed eyes (conjunctivitis).
