A fire has destroyed a home in Madaveli island of Gaafu Dhaalu atoll.

Authorities reveal that the Maldives National Defense Force's (MNDF) southern area fire station in Thinadhoo island of Gaafu Dhaalu atoll promptly attended to the fire, however, the island's residents had already put out the fire by the time firefighters arrived at the scene.

MNDF further disclosed that 80% of the house, named "Nares" was destroyed in the fire. Moreover, they state that they received the report around 08:20 am on Thursday.

The fire completely destroyed four rooms of the house and two other rooms were damaged from the smoke.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, a resident of the house claimed that while they are not sure of the exact reason behind the fire, they believe that the fire started due to electricity problems.

Emphasizing the help and support pouring in from the community following the fire, they stated that the children of the house have been taken in by relatives. As such, they added that the house was severely damaged by the fire and that some of the residents still have not found living arrangements.
