With the tourism season at its peak, Velana International Airport has yet again broken its recently-set record with a hike in air traffic movements.
Revealing this via Twitter, Maldives Airport Company Limited (MACL) wrote that last Sunday saw a new traffic record, set at a total of 811 movements.
While 252 runway movements were recorded, there were a total of 559 seaplane movements, revealed the company.
Expressing that the new record was set with the hard work of MACL staff and stakeholders, MACL revealed that the safety of airlines has “always” been an utmost priority.
While Sunday marked one of the busiest days for the airport, the last record broken by VIA was during December 2019, when the tourist peak season began.
Usually, the peak season begins late November and lasts through February to March the next year, and MACL earlier urged passengers to report to their respective departures 3 hours prior to the departure time as traffic congestions are expected.
