Equipment for playground projects in outlying islands to be dispatched soon
Public urges relevant authorities to maintain the projects they inaugurate
Children’s parks are to be built in 15 islands

The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment has revealed that equipment required to build children’s parks in outlying islands, will be dispatched soon.

Youth Minister Ahmed Mahloof made the reveal via Twitter, adding that the children’s parks are to be built in 15 islands;

1. Gulhi island in Kaafu atoll,

2. Rathafandhoo island in Gaaf Dhaal atoll,

3. Thinadhoo island in Gaaf Dhaal atoll,

4. Rasdhoo island in Alif Alif atoll,

5. Gaafaru island in Kaafu atoll,

6. Kihaadhoo island in Baa atoll,

7. Raiymandhoo island in Meemu atoll,

8. Vaadhoo island in Gaaf Dhaal atoll,

9. Hirilandhoo island in Thaa atoll,

10. Thuraakunu island Haa Alif atoll,

11. Kunburudhoo island in Alif Dhaal atoll,

12. Nilandhoo island in Gaaf Alif atoll,

13. Vandhoo island in Thaa atoll,

14. Vaadhoo island in Raa atoll and

15. Kandoodhoo island in Thaa atoll.

The minister’s tweets drew public concern, with social media users urging relevant authorities to maintain the projects they inaugurate, even after completion.

As such, some social media users have questioned the ministry if the parks will be build in shady areas, citing concerns from island residents that most children are unable to use the playground throughout most of the day as they are built in sun-baked areas with little to no shade.
