Maldives Police Service (MPS) arrested an individual for attempting to smuggle drugs via air into Dharavandhoo island of Baa atoll.

The man has been slapped with a seven-day remand by the Dhonfanu Magistrate Court. He is to be kept in a location allocated by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

During an operation conducted jointly by police intel, Dharavandhoo Police Desk and Eydhafushi officers, arrested was a 32-year-old man.

The arrest was made at around 11:58pm on Sunday following a tip-off.

Officers found a rubber packet filled with suspected narcotics after searching him, at Dharavandhoo Airport.

Eydhafushi Police Station has since launched further investigations into the case.
