Addu City Council has announced that the flats constructed at Hithadhoo and Hulhumeedhoo for the government's housing project have been transferred under the state's social housing scheme.

According to the council, these flats were originally meant for sale, however, they have since been transferred under the government's social housing scheme as per the instructions of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development. As such, Addu City Council has announced that the flats are now available to be issued to the public.

While 32 flats out of a total of 264 constructed in Hithadhoo were allocated for sale under the government's "Gedhoruverikan" program, these flats will now be issued to the public under the guidelines of the social housing scheme. Further, these flats will only be available to residents of Maradhoo, Maradhoo-Feydhoo and Feydhoo, who wish to migrate to Hithadhoo, said the council.

Likewise, nine out of a total of 48 flats were reserved for sale in Hulhudhoo under the housing project but these flats are now also available under the social housing scheme, specifically for the residents of Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo.

The council instructs interested candidates to submit the housing form and relevant documents to the Secretariat of the Addu City Council before working hours end on 16th January 2020.

While 230 out of 264 flats in Hithadhoo were available to the public, only 180 flats have been issued so far. The council also revealed that the landscaping and light installation in the area of these flats are still undergoing the tender stage.

Similarly, 38 out of 48 flats in Hulhudhoo were available to the public, but only 25 candidates have met the requirements stipulated under the housing scheme. While 20 candidates have been finalised, only four have signed the contract for these flats.
