Maziya Sports and Recreation Club has secured a narrow win against Foakaidhoo FC during Friday’s match of the ongoing Dhiraagu Dhivehi League.

Maziya, who remains top on the table, won the match held at Galolhu Stadium 3 – 2.

Maziya players were on a roll even at the start of the match, having directed several attacks to their opponents. Into the first few minutes, the winning team’s captain Asadhullah Abdulla blew a chance to score. Minutes into the first failed attempt followed the second, with Foakaidhoo goal keeper having blocked an excellent score attempt by Naiz Hassan.

The winning team took the lead in the match 15 minutes in with a goal scored by foreign player Stewart.

The tables turned for Foakaidhoo team when player Hussain Fazeel scored the equalizer goal for the team at the 57th minute.

Maziya strengthened its attack game and scored a second goal at the 68th minute of the game, followed by a third score from Ibrahim Waheed.

A minute into the third goal, Maziya goal keeper accidentally pulled an own-goal.

While Maziya had a major lead when the league began, having secured the top spot in the table with 29 points out of the first 12 matches, it remains at the top spot with 41 points gained through 16 matches. Club Eagles came second with 21 points at the beginning of the league and remains at the second spot with 27 points from 14 matches.

Third on the table, Green Street has a total of 26 points and TC Sports at its tail with 25 points.

Foakaidhoo FC falls behind at the sixth spot with 20 points.

After a brief hiatus of two months, the Dhiraagu Dhivehi League began on 16th December. While the league was discontinued for several reasons throughout this year, some of them include the National Football Team preparing for the World Cup Qualifications, AFC Asian Cup Joint Qualification and the recently held South Asian Games.
