Reiterating that it is illegal to stop in the middle of the bridge or highway, Maldives Police Service (MPS) has stressed that such acts pave way for more accidents.

Speaking to media after another accident on the Sinamalé Bridge on Saturday evening, police urged the public to abide by the traffic rules and respect laws when travelling as Saturday’s accident was the second such accident this weekend.

The accident was reported at around 04:38pm on Saturday when a motorcycle stopped in the middle of the highway and another one collided into it from behind.

While a 26-year-old man was operating the vehicle the collided into the motorcycle the was stopped in the middle of the highway by a 30-year-old woman, both attained injuries in the collision. They were both taken to Hulhumalé Hospital for treatment.

Highlighting that both individuals were licensed to operate vehicles, police further revealed that they have since begun an investigation into the case.

A similar accident took place on Friday, where a 34-year-old woman was left with a broken arm after she collided into a motorcycle that had stopped in the middle of the bridge.
