Authorities have closed off the west park jetty area in the capital city of Male' following serious damage to the structure.
Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that two people on the jetty fell and were injured after a portion of the jetty's floor broke off. Nevertheless, authorities state that neither sustained serious injuries.
As such, the authorities have closed off the area citing public safety and have informed Male' City council regarding the issue.
While the jetty is a hot spot where locals regularly go to fish, the condition of the jetty's structure has been deteriorating for a long period of time.
